President's Message - Issue 22
(Published: June, 2007, Volume 7, Number 1, Issue #22) (Table Of Contents)(Author: Larry Fillion)
Welcome to first Malaria Philatelists International (MPI) Miasma Philatelists of the 21st century. I would like to thank the
15 members that have joined before the first Miasma Philatelists is issued. Of the 15 members, there are few of the 'famous'
founding members from the beginnings of the MPI in 1979. Ron Ward (first President), and Mike Birrer (previous Editor) are still
actively collecting and have joined the new revived group.
The new MPI is setup as an online group. With doing this, the cost is free as there are no publication costs and no mailings that require postage.
Mike Birrer and I (mostly Mike) have been spending a lot of time on the "Malaria Catalog" that was started 20+ years ago. There has been great progress and now with the MPI back in action, we hope that other malaria collectors will be able to help out with sending scans of items that are not in the checklists.
As you'll see from the table of contents for this issue, there are a few updates to checklists and with this being published on the Internet, there are also no limits to the amount of images that can be displayed per article. Many of the images on the pages can be clicked and a larger version of the image will be displayed. Many times, the larger image can again be clicked for an even larger image.
Hopefully you have looked at the exhibits and maybe you are inspired to create an exhibit and show it at stamp show. If you have already exhibited a malaria related exhibit, I hope that you are willing to share it. If so, please send me an email and I'll setup the exhibit once I get scans.
Currently, I am working with the American Topical Association (ATA) to become a "Study Unit". I will keep people informed as to the progress.
There may be a new Miasma in a month as there are so many updates to original articles and there is so much new malaria items to write about, I should be able to quickly write 5-10 articles over the next 4 weeks. I already have over 5000 items scanned and just need to write the story around them. And please comment on this current issue and let me know what types of articles you are looking for. And please let me know if you would like to write an article.
