Marketplace - Finding Commercial Covers With Malaria Stamps
(Published: September, 2007, Volume 7, Number 2, Issue #23) (Table Of Contents)(Author: Larry Fillion)
Looking for malaria stamps on commercial covers? The auction site eBay seems to have a few commercial covers for sale each month but
is a slow acquisition process. I have found that searching through dealer boxes at shows can result in some good finds.
I went to APS StampShow 2007 in Portland Oregon on Thursday, August 9th, 2007. I was there at the opening of the show and went to the booths of 100+ dealers. There were a few dozen dealers that had commercial covers from the 1960s - many dealers do not carry such "new" stuff. I spent about 3-4 hours looking through boxes of covers sorted by country and sorted by topics with topical headings like medicine and insects from the topical dealers at the show. I picked up a dozen commercial covers and a few FDCs. This show was better than most due to the size of the show (over 100 dealers) as I usually only pick up 3-5 commercial covers at a show.
I would recommend attending stamp shows if you are looking for malaria stamps on commercial covers as you never know what you might find. Below are the commercial covers that I picked up.
